Spring Time, and the Livin’ is Easy!

What a refreshingly reassuring day today! At the end of March, our Alaskan spring is finally beginning to feel like . . . spring.

We’ve had a few false starts, but today I actually took lunch out to the veranda, and felt comfortable staying there long enough to finish eating. In addition to that, I baked some gingerbread in the solar oven, encouraged by heating soup for yesterday’s lunch in the oven (see Cooking With Solar).

It’s beautiful, it’s relatively warm, it’s time to kick back . . . except, of course, there’s a lot to be done. The birch suckers I trimmed weeks ago began weeping sap this morning, indicating that the flow has started, so I tapped a couple of our trees to begin harvesting sap for wine making (see The First of the Cabin Wines). And, as always, there’s firewood to cut and stack.

Right now, I’m in the middle of recovering from a computer crisis. Ironically, I managed to keep the blog up-to-date until I got the computer fixed. Now, as I struggle to return it to “normal,” which meant blowing past our bandwidth allotment for the month, the blog suffers. Hopefully, by the next scheduled post, I’ll have things under control. Wish me luck.

Incidentally, today’s full moon is the second Blue Moon of 2018. I don’t know why, but our local radio station announced repeatedly yesterday that the blue moon was on March 30. I don’t know where they got that information, but it’s wrong; it’s actually today. Crank up the old Marcell’s tune and take a look at the full moon this morning!
