Like a Breath of Fresh Air

After a long cold snap, we’ve got a thaw. As the snow finally began to fall, I dreaded the thought that rain might be close behind, but now that it’s here, it’s not so bad. It’s funny how little things disappear without being noticed, until they return. This morning, as I stepped outside, I could smell again!

It had been cold enough to freeze nose hair, if you’ll excuse my bluntness. Strong odors are still detectable under those conditions, but when the air moistens and warms, the forest’s fragrance comes back. It smells like spring right now. It’s fresh and reinvigorating!

I’m going to enjoy it while I can. My next adventure involves a trip to Fairbanks, where I doubt it’ll be warm enough to smell anything.
