Laid Low

Whatever’s going around—we got it!

Michelle came home for the weekend with a dry cough that worked itself into a mean sore throat and sinus drain. That spread to fever, head and muscle aches to the point that she had a pretty rough weekend.

I did my best to nurse her, but by Sunday I’d started coughing, too, although not so hard, thankfully. By Sunday evening, I had chills, and piled blankets on my side of the bed. The next morning my throat had gone scratchy, the cough had increased and developed that “coppery” flavor. I felt like I’d been beaten in a back alley.

I think we have the flu.

We keep pretty healthy here on the “homestead,” (see Sick Days or “Loss of a Sense of Well Being”) but Michelle’s work in town, often with kids, is our weak link. Her coworkers had been dropping out due to “whatever’s going around,” but she managed to pick it up from them.

This one put us to bed for a while. Michelle stayed home Monday, but managed to accomplish some tasks around the house. I spent most of the day lying in bed, moaning like a beached whale.

To make matters worse, we’re in the middle of a dry spring awakening, with sunny days in the 40s. There’s too much to be done to be laid low right now!

Sorry to read that you guys have got whatever is going around -My wife and dau. in Mississippi(she works at a daycare – the mama’s bring their sick kids) both have had it this winter – you will survive but may consider the option before you get well. Luckily it has passed me by so far (knock on wood – tap my head)- get well soon!
Responded to a wildfire Sat (Ben VFD) you folks can’t be more remote than this couple. Off the grid and pig trail to get there. What some folks will do for a view.

    Get well soon, you two!

Thanks, Jody. Slow but steady, apparently.

Hi Linn, Michelle ran a daycare out of our home for years. That used to be my primary source of infections. To make matters worse, I worked for the state, in hermetically sealed office buildings that circulated everyone’s germs throughout the entire building. That’s why this current flu is so rare for us anymore. I should be grateful.

I just got over something similar last week. Felt horrible for 2-3 days and then felt somewhat horrible for the next week. Still have a little cough, but feeling normal otherwise.

    ‘Member the Sick Box?

Best wishes to both of you for a speedy recovery!

Dave, I’d give a million dollars for the sick box today! Or, maybe I should just pull out my junk drawer, which is pretty much the same thing after all.

I wonder what ever happened to that stuff? Some of it would be quite valuable these days.

Thanks for your good wishes. I think we’re finally on the mend.
