Early Aurora

Ironically, we, like most of the United States, are experiencing weather from the recent northern typhoon in the Bering Sea. While much of the Lower 48 gets cold and snow, we get clear days and mildly cold temperatures.

Last night, about 8:00 p.m. we got an excellent aurora borealis display. Unfortunately, my pre-programmed settings on my camera failed me, so I only got a couple of shots. Finally, I gave up and watched.

The photo shoot proved perilous, as the beach rocks were frosty and very slick. I stumbled around for a bit, and learned that a camera tripod can make a dandy emergency cane!

Excellent display, lousy photography... (Photo: Mark A. Zeiger).
